Digital Creative Series is Back

After a summer hiatus the Digital Creative Series is back, and we’re building on the success of previous events in the series. If you’ve been following our journey, you will know that our events are more than just gatherings – they’re an opportunity for creative minds to come together, get inspired and learn from each other, and if you’re new then we welcome you with an open heart and mind to our next event ‘The Future of Creative Freelancing’ on Thursday 28th September from 6pm to 7:30pm in Boxworks co-working space.

Opportunities and challenges in creative freelancing

No matter where you stand on freelancing as a creative this event is shaping up to be a very interesting one. We’ll be taking a closer look at the emerging opportunity and challenges creative freelancers face. With the rise of remote working and the ever increasing impact of technology on creative industries, we’re taking this opportunity to examine where freelancing is across different creative fields and look ahead to where things may go in the future.

Featured Speaker: Úna Herlihy

We’re thrilled to announce Úna Herlihy as our main speaker on the night. She is the co-founder of The Indie List, Ireland’s largest community of freelance talent.  Úna’s experience as a freelancer and in establishing The Indie List means she is very much at the heart of creative freelancing and is well placed to help us understand the future of creative freelancing. She’ll share her insights, experiences, and essential tips for not just surviving but thriving as a freelancer.

Panel of Creative Minds

Following Úna’s talk, a panel of creatives from different creative disciplines will discuss their experience as freelancers and how the future of creative freelancing looks from where they’re sitting.

John Rooney
A Graduate of IADT, John Rooney has worked in the design industry for over 30 years, from pen and ink to the emergence and explosion of digital design through to the controversial introduction of AI in design. John specialises in Brand Identity, Web Design, Marketing Collateral, Signage, Packaging and Front End Application Design (UI/UX). Like most in his field, John is concerned about the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the graphic design industry which will only become more significant in the coming years but argues that ‘it’s not all bad news’!

Luke Corcoran
Luke Corcoran is a rising talent making significant strides in the theatre and film sectors. As a playwright, screenwriter, and actor/director, his work is receiving noteworthy attention, particularly with the success of his Purgatory; Archaic series. In just one year, he showcased his exceptional ability by directing two feature films, including the critically acclaimed “POPPY LOFTUS.” This film not only gained recognition in festivals both domestically and internationally but has also been secured for distribution, soon to be available on major streaming platforms. Alongside his on-screen achievements, Luke’s commitment to fostering talent shines through in his acting classes at the Waterford Film Centre and his valuable contributions to Waterford Youth Arts. “Representing the new wave of Irish creative brilliance, Luke Corcoran is undeniably a figure to watch.”

Connect, Share, and Network

As always there will be ample opportunities to meet like-minded people before, during and after the event. This is an area which we are actively working on building upon so further plans and initiatives being supported by Waterford Local Enterprise Office and Creative Waterford will be announced on the night.

This event is free, but spaces are limited. Be sure to reserve your spot on Eventbrite if you want to attend.
