Bridge Street Mural Packs a Punch

It’s no secret that The Walls Project revel in brightening up our streets. Their flagship Waterford Walls Festival is a calendar highlight for Waterford residents and visitors alike, who flock to the city streets every August to see brand new public art emerging before their very eyes.

The festival commissions artists both local and national to create original murals on public walls, turning the city into a year-long outdoor gallery. This year’s offering was just as wonderful as we have come to expect from the capable and enthusiastic team in The Walls Project.

Bridge Street Mural

One mural has a particularly special place in our hearts here at Creative Waterford, because it’s one that we funded. Australian mural artist George Rose arrived armed with a cherry-picker, fresh ideas and plenty of paint to 9 Bridge Street, a previously blank wall set to be transformed by her vision and skill.

We’ll let the pictures speak for themselves (credit to the fabulous Mike Chaney), but we think you’ll agree that she’s created something quite spectacular.

For those keen to see George’s work and all the other fantastic new murals in the city, it’s easy to do. Grab a map, grab a coffee, and head out on a most enjoyable self-guided art tour.
