While it seems mad to be talking about June in the early days of January, it’s time for us to start cooking up our plans for this year’s Cruinniú na nÓg festival. This festival is for young people, and we really need the input of young people to make it the best it can be.
What is Cruinniú na nÓg?
Cruinniú na nÓg is a day of free creative activities for young people which takes place in June. This year, it will be on Saturday 8th June.
What happens at it?
We run free creative activities for young people (anyone under 18) across the city and county. We try to make these as varied and interesting as possible so that there’s something for everyone. In previous years, we’ve done things like circus skills, drama, dance, writing, and art.
So what are you asking us to do?
We want young voices to guide the planning stages of this year’s Cruinniú na nÓg in Waterford. We would like to set up two separate planning groups – one with members aged 8-12, and one with members aged 13-17. These groups will be helping us to choose what happens at Cruinniú and to make sure this is an event that young people in Waterford will enjoy.
We would like each group to come and meet with us three times before June to help with the planning, at a time and location that we will agree together. We will provide food and refreshments at these meetings.
Do I need to be creative to be in the planning group?
We believe that everybody is creative, but you do not have to have any experience in creativity or the arts to be part of the planning group. In fact, we’re especially interested in chatting to people who have never been to an event like this before.
I think I might be interested – what do I do next?
If you or a young person you know is interested in being part of the planning group, email Nicola on nspendlove@waterfordcouncil.ie to chat about next steps. We’d absolutely love to hear from you!
