Crockery Mountain: A Community Mural of Stories

We are thrilled to share the story of Crockery Mountain, an extraordinary community-led project that has transformed the wall of the Dungarvan cinema into a vibrant celebration of memory, creativity, and collaboration.

Part of Act 2, a larger initiative funded by Creative Ireland in collaboration with SETU and WCCC, Crockery Mountain was conceived as an ambitious experiment in public art. The project was led by Sean Corcoran of The Art Hand, who worked closely with the local community to bring the vision to life.

What makes this mural truly special is its intimate, human touch. Each piece of crockery incorporated into the design was donated by members of the community and carries a sentimental story—a cherished memory, a family tradition, a personal milestone. Sean and his team documented these stories, ensuring that every fragment of china contributes not just to the visual tapestry, but to the collective narrative of the broader community itself.

The resulting artwork is a large-scale wall mural unlike anything you’ve seen before—a mountain of stories, memories, and shared heritage, beautifully arranged in a way that is both playful and poignant. It’s a celebration of community, of creativity, and of the small, meaningful objects that shape our lives.

Today, Crockery Mountain stands proudly on the wall of the Dungarvan cinema, inviting audiences to pause, reflect, and perhaps even see their own stories reflected in the mosaic of crockery. It is a testament to what can be achieved when artists and communities come together to create something that is bigger than the sum of its parts.

If you’re in Dungarvan, be sure to stop by and experience the mural in person. And if you’re inspired, consider sharing your own stories—after all, every piece of crockery carries a memory, and every memory deserves to be celebrated.
